Oxford or Derby? To you the choice.
Today I will talk to you about two models of elegant men's shoes... the Oxford and the Derby .
These are both elegant models for men although the primacy of elegance must undoubtedly be attributed to the Oxford.
Choosing isn't always easy but a little more information will certainly help.
The difference
I can't help but start with the difference between them which often escapes the many males who come to visit us in the shop.
But where do we find the difference between the two?
Simple. The Oxford has closed lacing while the Derby has open lacing.
The image I inserted will help better than any other description.
But why are they called that?
For the Oxford there seems to be no doubt about its origins... it was worn for the first time at the end of the eighteenth century by English university students. Rich stuff.
On the Derby, history offers a double version of its origins.
The first reconstruction attributes the first use of this model of men's shoe to the Earl of Derby, we are at the end of the eighteenth century. Apparently the Count did not find the boots comfortable.
The second version states that during the Napoleonic wars it was the Prussian officer von Blücher who conceived and had this shoe made to facilitate the movement of his troops... here too it seems that the boots caused a lot of problems.
And the word Brogue?
Finally, one last useful piece of information.....for both models it sometimes happens that we find ourselves faced with this additional term...Brogue.
Well this word indicates that workmanship that we find on the upper which consists of many circular-shaped punches.
My proposals
As you will discover by venturing into my store, there are many Oxford and Derby models that I offer every year.
In the men's collections for these models, brands such as Ernesto Dolani, Corvari, Minoronzoni but not only dominate.
My final advice remains to explore the store without forgetting the unmissable opportunities in my outlet .
Thanks and see you in my next article!
